Khan: I’m The One Man Floyd Avoided
If you look at the resume of Floyd Mayweather, you will see some of the biggest names of the past two decades, except Amir Khan.
Khan, a former world champion who had his comeback hit a snag in 2019 with a controversial stoppage loss to Terence Crawford and then decimated a short-notice and undersized Billy Dib in Saudi Arabia claims that Mayweather actively avoided fighting him during his career.
The two were in-talks in 2014, when Khan felt he was close to securing a fight with the undefeated boxer, but Mayweather instead fought a rising star in Marcos Maidana in a two-fight series after Maidana’s upset over Adrien Broner.
“I’ve always thought I could have Floyd Mayweather’s number,” Khan said to BT Sport.
“I knew in the back of my mind I could have the beating of him. Styles make fights and that’s just one fight he avoided and didn’t want.”
Mayweather claimed he will be returning to the ring in 2020, Khan may have his chance, but Khan may first face off against fellow former world champion and U.K. star Kell Brook.
