Khan To Join Matchroom
Following his two year stint away from the ring, Amir Khan is poised to join Eddie Hearn’s stable of fighters at Matchroom boxing. The move, broken by BoxingScene, will be announced on Wednesday at a press conference at London’s Dorchester Hotel.
Khan, following a 2017 away from the ring highlighted by marriage troubles, and a stint on ITV show ‘I’m A Celebrity Get Me Out of Here!’ he looks to return to the ring in the spring of 2018.
With rumors of a potential clash with Adrien Broner growing, it seems like a return to the ring is happening for Khan, but in the United Kingdom. Which means a Broner fight may not happen in the immediate future.
Khan is connected to Al Haymon and his Premier Boxing Champions brand, which represents Broner. And if both men wanted the fight, the Haymon connection makes any potential encounter an easy one to make.
Khan is expected to have at least one warm-up fight, but nothing can be ruled out due to Khan claiming a ‘major announcement’ is on the way.
A world title fight opposite Jeff Horn was in the news when Khan travelled to the Aussie’s recent win over Gary Corcoran in Brisbane, whilst a fight with new super-welterweight Kell Brook is definitely off the table for now.
