Khan Targeting Brook Fight for 2020

Could the fight between British rivals Amir Khan and Kell Brook actually take place? According to Khan, it can happen.

Khan claims to UK’s Pep Talk TV that he is in talks with promoter Eddie Hearn for the showdown between the two to finally take place in 2020.

“We are in talks with Eddie and Kell’s team so hopefully we can make that fight happen,” Khan said. “It’s a fight that the public want, it’s a massive fight in Britain, so let make it happen.”

Khan vs. Brook could have taken place this year, but as a deal looked to be near, Khan swerved and took guaranteed money to challenge WBO welterweight champion Terence Crawford in April at Madison Square Garden. Khan was dominated and retired from the bout after a low blow in the sixth round.

Khan has been viewed as damaged goods since the loss, and his last fight came against Billy Dib in Saudi Arabia in July. Khan finished Dib, who was a late replacement and never fought at welterweight before, in the fourth round.

Brook, meanwhile, has not fought since a disappointing performance in a lackluster unanimous decision win against Michael Zerafa in December 2018. Brook has been dealing with injuries, but he is targeting a return to the ring before the end of 2019.

Khan also hopes to fight one more time before the end of the year and before this potential, long-awaited showdown.

“I think it’s a great idea,” Khan said. “I think both of us will be fighting end of the year and then we see early next year that fight between me and Kell can happen. We are both similar age, I think it’s a fight that we’ve been trying to make for a very long time and I think it’s getting very close to it now. I’ve worked with Eddie Hearn for a couple of my previous fights and I think going back and working with him on this fight against Kell Brook will be massive.”
