Khan vs. Goyat Booked for July 12

After falling short in a title shot against WBO Welterweight Champion Terence Crawford in April, former light-welterweight world champion Amir Khan will return to the ring on July 12, taking on Neeraj Goyat.

The fight will headline a card held at the King Abdullah Sports City in Saudi Arabia.

Khan was battered around by Crawford in his last outing, losing by a margin on all three scorecards before a low blow in the sixth round that forced him to withdraw from the fight.

The title fight came after a year that saw Khan knock out Phil Lo Greco in 41 seconds before a lackluster decision win over Samuel Vargas, the latter of which saw Khan get knocked down early. Khan’s April 2018 bout with Lo Greco was his first since getting knocked out by Canelo Alvarez in a May 2016 middleweight title fight.

Khan’s bout with Crawford came after taking $5 million guaranteed to pass on an opportunity to face British rival Kell Brook in a long-awaited fight. Khan has previously stated he feels a fight with Brook is still possible.

After two losses and two draws in his first four pro bouts, Goyat has won 11 of his last 12. He also most recently competed on April 20, scoring a unanimous decision over Carlos Lopez Marmolejo in Toronto, Ontario, Canada.
