Kiko Martinez Cliches IBF World Featherweight Title With KO Win

Kiko Martinez upset the odds Saturday night when he knocked out Kid Galahad to become the new IBF world featherweight champion.

The former champ was winning on points just before a powerful Martinez haymaker sent him down to the canvas in the sixth round. He was dropped by Martinez earlier in the fifth round too.

Galahad was disappointed after losing his title, but he assured that he will bounce back strongly.

“Firstly congratulations to Kiko Martinez and his team on his victory last night,” he said. “I am gutted about the loss but I have lost no desire to reach the levels and goals I’ve set in this crazy game called boxing.”

Even Matchroom Boxing chairman Eddie Hearn seemed shocked to see the stoppage. He marveled at how a single punch changed the entire context of the fight.

“I can’t believe what I’ve just seen,” the promoter said. “It was the most stunning thing I’ve ever seen in a boxing ring. It was such a one-sided fight. It was beat-down, a masterclass.”

“Kiko Martinez has been fighting at the top for 15 years. I knew he would not stop trying. He was completely outclassed by Galahad. Wow. That was a brutal right-hand finish.”
