Korean Zombie Calls For Fight With Zabit Magomedsharipov
Chan Sung Jung is eyeing a clash with Zabit Magomedsharipov.
Jung is coming off a unanimous decision loss to Brian Ortega but he’s eager to return to the Octagon. Magomedsharipov is also looking to get back to action but his situation is a bit different. Zabit is riding a 14-fight winning streak. He hasn’t suffered a loss since April 2013 and is looking for a signature win that will grant him a UFC Featherweight Title opportunity.
During an interview with MMAJunkie.com, the “Korean Zombie” explained why he’s looking for a showdown with Zabit.
“I want Zabit (Magomedsharipov). That’s the fight that’s going to get me closest to a title shot. More than that, I want to once again try to prove myself against one of the hottest fighters in the division and prove that I’m still capable of competing at the highest level. Of course, I would understand if he doesn’t want to fight me.”
Jung went on to say that the decision rests in Zabit’s hands when it comes to making this bout a reality.
“This is a fight that would bring the fans to their feet. (He) and I are both entertainers and extremely competitive, so I think he’d like to step in the octagon with me. A win for both of us would mean a lot for our careers, and it would be an amazing match. The ball is in Zabit’s court; I want this fight to kick off 2021.”
Zabit had long been linked to a fight with Yair Rodriguez. Now that Rodriguez has been sidelined with a six-month USADA suspension, it leaves Zabit looking for new opposition.
