Koscheck Set for Bellator Debut
MMA veteran Josh Koscheck’s Bellator debut has been long-delayed, but appears to be finally coming to fruition this month. Bellator announced on Tuesday that Koscheck will fight on the main card of Bellator 172 in a welterweight fight with Mauricio Alonso. The event will take place on Feb. 18 in San Jose, Calif.
Koscheck (17-10) fought all but the first two of his pro fights under the UFC banner. Among his accomplishments, he challenged Georges St. Pierre for the welterweight title in 2010. A veteran of the first season of The Ultimate Fighter, Koscheck stuck around in the UFC until 2015, when he lost his fifth straight fight to Erick Silva. Later that year, the decorated NCAA Division 1 wrestler announced that he had signed with Bellator.
Due to injuries, he has not fought since that loss to Silva. He was scheduled twice to make his Bellator debut, at Bellator 148 and then at Bellator 158. The 39-year-old was forced to pull out to both fights.
He will face Mauricio Alonso, who has won his previous two fights and boasts a pro record of 12-7. He has only fought once in the Bellator cage, losing to Nick Pic at Bellator 142.
Bellator 172 is headlined by a highly-anticipated matchup of heavyweights as Russian legend Fedor Emelianenko makes his Bellator debut against UFC veteran Matt Mitrione.
