Kowalkiewicz Shares An Update Following UFC Auckland Loss

This past weekend in New Zealand, Karolina Kowalkiewicz suffered an eye injury that will require surgery.

During her bout with Yan Xiaonon inside the Spark Arena in Auckland, Karolina (12-6) was tagged many times in the face by fists and kicks. She ended up losing the bout via unanimous decision. It was later revealed that she couldn’t see anything out of her eye.

“Hey guys, thanks for your support. First time in my life after fight, I cannot say I’m OK,” Karolina stated. “Like you see, in the beginning of the first round I have broken small bone here {below the eye). I couldn’t see nothing. My vision was double and everything was like in the fog.”

It appears she may have suffered an orbital bone fracture. There were talks of whether her corner should have stopped the fight, but it became clear she was going to finish the bout. Now, Karolina has options for her next move.

“After the fight, I spent all day in the hospital,” Karolina continued. “Today, I’m going to specialist and they make decision. Because I need operation, I’m waiting for decision here or I can go back to Poland and make this operation in Poland. The doctors said I have to stay here because flying with this eye is very dangerous.”

Saturday’s decision was Karolina’s fourth loss in a row. In her last eight fights, the “Polish Princess” is 6-2.
