Kownacki-Helenius Official for March 7
Heavyweights will take center stage in “The Big Apple”, on March 7, topped by action from undefeated Polish heavyweight contender and Brooklyn native Adam Kownacki, as he takes on Robert Helenius in a WBA heavyweight title eliminator.
FOX has officially given its approval of the fight, which headlines a Premier Boxing Champions (PBC) card at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York.
Kownacki was rumored to be facing either former title challenger Dominic Breazeale or Christian Hammer, and Helenius was reportedly working on a bout with former WBO champion Joseph Parker before the changes in plans.
Winning all 20 bouts of his career thus far, with 75 percent of the victories coming by KO/TKO, Kownacki has bested a heavyweight titlist and two former title challengers in his last three fights. He bested former IBF champion Charles Martin September 2018 before a second-round TKO of Gerald Washington a year ago and a unanimous decision over Chris Arreola in August.
Helenius, a former European heavyweight champion, was last in action on November 30, scoring a second-round finish of Mateus Roberto Osorio. That win rebounded Helenius from an eighth-round knockout loss to Washington in July, a defeat that snapped a three fight-win streak after losing to current interim WBC heavyweight champ Dillian Whyte.
The other two televised bouts on the PBC broadcast will also feature heavyweights colliding, including Efe Ajagba in action in the co-main event, as well as Frank Sanchez facing Joey Dawejko.
