Kubrat Pulev Fires Back At Racism Accusations Following Comment On Anthony Joshua
Kubrat Pulev has issued a statement following claims of racism.
Pulev is scheduled to challenge Joshua for the WBA (Super), IBF, WBO, and IBO Heavyweight Titles. The bout will take place inside the O2 Arena in London, England on December 12. Whether or not fans will be in attendance will be determined.
Ahead of his tilt with Joshua, Pulev made the comment that “AJ” has a better tan than he does. Some weren’t happy with Pulev’s comments as they felt it had racial undertones.
In a statement, Pulev fired back at those hurling accusations of racism.
“I would never, under any circumstances, allow myself to show disrespect to another human being on racial, ethnic or religious grounds. That’s what I’ve been teaching my little nephews all the time. Each of us is born on this earth with equal rights, and skin color is completely irrelevant.
“I can’t believe how my words about Anthony Joshua have been taken out of context. It never even occurred to me to discredit another sportsman because of the color of his skin! Amongst my friends there are people of different races and ethnicities. They are all great and worthy people, as well as my very good, long-standing friends whom I respect and love.”
Pulev is hoping to shock the world before the end of 2020. If he can defeat Joshua and capture all the gold, then he’ll put a major dent in plans for Joshua vs. WBC Heavyweight Champion Tyson Fury. Joshua and Fury have agreed in principle to a title unification bout.
