Lamas Eyes Edgar Fight in May
Ricardo Lamas has fought the who’s who of the featherweight division, and is coming off of one of the best victories of his career. There’s one top 145 pounder he has yet to face, though: two-time title challenger (and former lightweight champion) Frankie Edgar.
With Max Holloway and Jose Aldo fighting to unify the featherweight championship, Edgar is the best possible opponent for Lamas. And both fighters seem willing to get the fight made.
“It makes the most sense for my career, for his career, for No. 2 and No. 3 to go at it,” Lamas told MMA Junkie Radio.
Edgar and Lamas had gone back and forth on Twitter, both verbally agreeing to a fight in May.
“He said he’s good to go middle of May, and I said I was down with that. Hopefully, Frankie’s a man of his word, and we’ll get this thing done.”
In January, Edgar underwent groin surgery to take care of a “nagging injury.” He has continued to say that he is ready to fight in the coming months, so a matchup with Lamas on a high-profile card or as a main event of a Fight Night makes sense.
