Lara-Hurd Draws Higher Than Joshua-Parker
Even though Jarrett Hurd and Erislandy Lara’s unification fight didn’t begin till 12:43 am ET, the junior middleweight title fight out drew the heavyweight clash between Anthony Joshua and Joseph Parker in the ratings.
Per a report from Boxing Scene, Nielsen Media Research revealed Tuesday that viewership for Hurd-Lara, the main event of Showtime’s tripleheader from Las Vegas, peaked at 521,000 viewers.
Both the peak audience, and the average audience (490k), for last weekend’s fight outpaced Joshua and Parker’s heavyweight unification with a peak audience of 379,000 and an average audience of 346,000 on March 31st.
One issue could stand with Joshua-Parker starting around 5:51pm ET, which is not an average airtime for a boxing match in the United States, as a same-day replay of the fight peaked at 483,000 viewers with an average of 430,000.
Much like Joshua-Parker, the junior middleweight showdown went all 12 rounds, with Hurd claiming the WBA and IBO titles along with his IBF crown via split decision.
