Laszak Wins Bellator Welterweight Title

Despite having his home country of Hungary on his side, Zoltán Laszák entered into the main event of Bellator Kickboxing 3, in Budapest, as the underdog up against welterweight champion Karim Ghaji.

Laszák, however, would not be denied and won the championship at the event via unanimous decision. The event took place on Sept. 17, however, aired on Spike on Sept. 23.

"Somewhere early in the fight I managed to catch him with a pretty good shot and honestly, this made me a bit wanting to go for the kill," Laszák said in a post-fight interview with website "It became more like a punch-for-punch, kick-for-kick fight.

"I’d love to thank my coach, my teammates David and Vivien and all those people who have rooted for me — my family, all my teammates, friends, students and last but not least my partner."

In the co-main event of the evening, another welterweight bout, Raymond Daniels managed to pick up a unanimous decision victory over Zsolt Benedek. The rest of the undercard finished with decisions as well. Denise Kielholtz defeated Renáta Cseh-Lantos, and Alexandru Negrea scored a victory over Ali El Ameri via unanimous decision, while Mustapha Haida came up victorious over Kike Bonnin by extra-round decision.
