Lee-Danis Near Deal For 100K Grappling Match
A UFC star and a Bellator star are near a deal to square off… Not in a cage, but in a jiu-jitsu match with $100,000 on the line.
UFC lightweight Kevin Lee told MMAJunkie radio this week that a JiuJitsu face-off between he and Dillon Danis is being worked on.
“He issued the challenge,” Lee told MMAjunkie Radio. “I’m still waiting to hear back. I know his people reached out to mine. I said I’ll take it.”
Danis called for the match after the grappler turned MMA fighter was dissed by Lee, who doesn’t want this to be an over the top style event.
“It’s just going to be me and him,” he said. “Man to man. Just straight jiu-jitsu.”
“(Danis) said we’ll put it on our Instagram story,” Lee said of how others can see the two square off. “That seems a little too small. That we have to figure out. But it will just be me and him probably in a room. We’ll put it on YouTube or something.”
Lee offered to host Danis the week of UFC 229, when the SBG Ireland fighter will be in town for teammate Conor McGregor faces Khabib Nurmagomedov. Lee even would allow McGregor’s coach John Kavanagh as the referee.
Lee told MMA Junkie that he wanted the match under combat jiu-jutsu rules, but has agreed to a straight jiu-jitsu match.
“I grapple every day,” he said. “What am I going to do, lose? I don’t give a (expletive). It’s 100 Gs. I’m going to be pissed, but it is what it is.”
