Leon Edwards Has Second Thoughts On Potentially Fighting Jorge Masvidal

A few days ago, Leon Edwards refused talks of a potential fight with Jorge Masvidal. But on Tuesday, Edwards changed his mind.

In an interview with Ariel Helwani, Edwards took back his previous words and mentioned that he would share the octagon with Masvidal.

“Yeah, for sure. November, December. I’ll be on (to fight against Jorge Masvidal). Apart from a title shot, there’s no other fight than him. Everyone knows this,” he said.

“I’m not scared of him. I’ve asked three years in a row to fight this guy and he turned down every single time.”

The No. 3 ranked contender posted on Twitter that he is waiting for the title shot next.

Fans have wanted a grudge match between the two fighters for awhile.

It stems from Masvidal giving a live interview after defeating Darren Till in his hometown. Edwards said something to Masvidal, Masvidal left the interview, went to Leon and landed several punches.

This is where Masvidal’s famous phrase “3 Piece with soda” was born.

Edwards has not suffered a loss for a while.

In his last ten contests, he celebrated victory nine times, and only one battle turned out as NC against Belal Muhammad.

The last time he fought was with Nate Diaz where he was winning every round, but just one minute from the fifth round bell, Diaz landed a huge cross right on Leon’s chin. Leon was seriously hurt, he could not even walk normally, but somehow he managed to survive for a whole minute and earned unanimous victory.

Masvidal is coming out from two losses — both against Kamaru Usman.

The first time when they met, Usman defeated Masvidal via unanimous decision. In their rematch, Usman landed a brutal left hook right cross combination and earned one of the most spectacular knockout victories.
