Leon Edwards: UFC Said Jorge Masvidal Doesn’t Want To Fight Me
Leon Edwards is making quite the claim on why he isn’t likely to fight Jorge Masvidal anytime soon.
Edwards and Masvidal are no strangers to one another. Back in March 2019, Masvidal punched Edwards in the face backstage after a UFC London event. Both men were in separate bouts that night. During an interview with Laura Sanko, Edwards and Masvidal exchanged words. “Gamebred” walked over to Edwards and hit him with a combination.
Since that incident, Edwards has been asking for a fight with Masvidal inside the Octagon. The bout hasn’t come to fruition. During an appearance on Submission Radio, Edwards claimed the UFC told him Masvidal isn’t interested in fighting him (h/t Fight Bananas).
“They (the UFC) just said he (Jorge Masvidal) doesn’t want to fight. Basically I said, ‘gimme Jorge’ and they said, ‘basically he doesn’t want to fight you and that’s it.’ They said they put it to him and he turned it down, that’s it. You cannot force a man to fight, you know what I mean? He doesn’t want to fight — he talks all this BMF sh*t but he doesn’t want to fight. That’s just the bottom line of it.
“I think he’ll find some excuse not to fight me,” Edwards said. “When I win the belt he’ll try call for me then, and try and fight me then, you know what I mean — even then I’ll probably give him a go at the belt. So we’ll see, we’ll see. I’ll keep doing my thing — I’m finna whip his ass, if that doesn’t get him in the cage with me, we’ll see.“
Edwards is scheduled to meet Khamzat Chimaev in the main event of a UFC Fight Night card on March 13. The bout will be held inside the UFC APEX in Las Vegas, Nevada.
