Leonard Ellerbe: Gervonta Davis Will Have The Biggest Fights Possible In 2021
Mayweather Promotions CEO Leonard Ellerbe insists that Gervonta Davis will compete in massive bouts in 2021.
Davis is the WBA (Regular) Lightweight and WBA (Super) Super-Featherweight Champion. He is coming off a highlight-reel knockout victory over Leo Santa Cruz in the sixth round. The win extended Davis’ pro boxing record to 24-0. It was also the 23rd knockout win for “Tank.”
Davis has expressed mutual interest in a showdown with interim WBC Lightweight Champion Ryan Garcia. Ellerbe told BoxingScene.com that Davis will get some big fights in 2021.
“Gervonta is going to fight in the biggest fights possible in 2021. He wants to fight anyone that we put in front of him. He’s willing to fight anybody. It’s great for the sport that [all of the 135 pounders] want to fight one another. A fight with Tank and Ryan will be the biggest fight in the sport, period. It’s not even close.
“Garcia beat a very good fighter in Luke Campbell. He went through a little adversity in the fight and it just shows you what he is made of. He’s made it known to the world that he wants to fight Tank, and that’s a great thing. It’s a tremendous matchup. Tank is the top dog and biggest name at 130 and 135 pounds. He’s the cash cow.”
As of late, Garcia has seemingly turned his attention to Manny Pacquiao. While Garcia is still interested in a clash with “Tank,” that matchup may have to wait a while.
