Lewis Thinks Joshua-Wilder Money Would Need To Be Split

When asked about a potential heavyweight unification fight between Deontay Wilder and Anthony Joshua, former undisputed world heavyweight champion, Lennox Lewis thinks that Deontay Wilder deserves a split of the money.

While Joshua’s promoter Eddie Hearn has made numerous flat fee offers to Wilder, Lewis believes that while Joshua deserves the bigger share, Wilder deserves a split of the gate.

“This is the biggest bout in the division. It will be BOTH of their highest paydays ever. You don’t offer a check for this fight. You offer a split. I say 60/40 in AJ’s favor, maybe even 70/30, but not a flat fee. I took less to face Holyfield because I wanted to be undisputed,” Lewis stated.

Joshua retained his IBF, WBO, WBA, IBO heavyweight titles in September with a seventh round knockout of Alexander Povetkin at Wembley Stadium.

With a return to Wembley penciled in for April 13th, Wilder has been Joshua’s very open choice to stand across the ring, but complicating that is Wilder’s willingness to wait on Joshua to have a rematch against Tyson Fury following their December 1st draw in Los Angeles.
