Lewis Wants Ngannou Fight Before He “Turns 50 On Us”
Recently on the Slip n’ Dip podcast, UFC heavyweight contender Derrick Lewis broke down why he wants to face off against fellow heavyweight, Francis Ngannou this year, and its claims that its all about age.
“Yeah hopefully we can get something done this year man,” Lewis told the Slip n’ Dip podcast recently. “Hopefully we can get something before he turns 50 on us.”
Ngannou and Lewis have been throwing shade at one another in the media for almost a year, leading up to Ngannou breaking out into stardom when the knocked out Mark Hunt in the summer of 2017. And now with Lewis picking up a big win at UFC Austin, and Ngannou coming off a loss to heavyweight champion Stipe Miocic, the two may be set up for a fight, that is if Ngannou is ready to comeback to the Octagon.
As reported by MMA Fighting, Ngannou announced that he would be taking some time off, following his loss against Miocic at UFC 220, and Lewis is fine iwth that as long as he gets a shot at a top contender and makes a big payday from it.
“Usually after every fight I tell [the UFC], ‘I would like to fight this guy,’” Lewis said. “I try to pick the toughest guys out there. I don’t try to pick anybody that’s behind me, I try to pick everybody that’s ahead of me in the rankings. So it’s the top five, top six. I try to pick one of those guys that’s available. I told them Francis, I told them [Alistair] Overeem, even a rematch with Mark [Hunt]. [Curtis] Blaydes. Fabricio [Werdum].”
