Linares May Need New Trainer For Loma Fight

While Jorge Linares prepares for what may be the toughest challenge of his career against Vasyl Lomachenko, Linares may be without a cornerstone of his success.

Jorge Linares, the WBA’s lightweight world champion will defend his title on May 12th at Madison Square Garden, but may be without his longtime trainer Ismael Salas.

Salas is in the midst of training David Haye for his May 5th rematch with Tony Bellew, the camp started before Linares-Lomachenko was finalized.

Initially Linares, who is training in Tokyo, was to fly to London to train alongside Haye and Salas. Now, Salas confirmed that those planse have changed.

“It seems that (Linares) will not come to London and the second part of the camp will be held in Las Vegas until the moment of traveling to New York. If that is confirmed, as it seems to be happening, I will not be in his corner,” Salas told ESPN Deportes.

Salas has been a major key to Linares success  over the past few years. Salas replaced Freddie Roach following two straight losses by Linares, but since under Salsas tutelage, Linares has won two championships.
