Loeffler Talks GGG Options After HBO
In a new interview, Tom Loeffler expressed his surprise to HBO ending its near half century relationship with the sport of boxing.
“It was a surprise because HBO in America has been the leader for building stars,” he said. “Triple G was built on their platform, Mayweather, Oscar De La Hoya… So many great stars were built on the HBO platform that it was a surprise. It was a surprise for all of us.”
While some such as Bob Arum saw the end for HBO, Loeffler was taken aback by not only the decision, but how fast they came to the decision and the network’s exit strategy.
“There were rumors about it and with the transition with the merger with AT&T, they weren’t sure how that was going to affect it, so it wasn’t a complete surprise,” he continued. “But once we got the news it was something we didn’t expect, that they would be so sudden. Triple G is going to take off some time. He’s in Kazakhstan with his family and he will probably come back some time in the spring next year.”
“Everyone has contacted me already about Triple G and about a lot of the other fighters that we work with in our super-fly series and we will see what’s the best platform. I would imagine [a decision will be made] some time this year, just so we have it set for what’s going to happen next year.”
