Loma and Kambosos’ Intense Face-Off

Vasiliy Lomachenko and George Kambosos Jr. had an intense face-off for over three minutes during their final pre-fight presser ahead of their May 12 clash.

The vacant IBF Lightweight Title clash takes place in Perth, Australia. The belt was free after Devin Haney vacated to move up to junior welterweight. Lomachenko missed out on undisputed at 135, losing to Haney via a controversial unanimous decision. The 36-year-old has revealed his long-term future is uncertain, hinting at a possible retirement. But if Loma wins, Bob Arum wants to make him fight Shakur Stevenson next.

“If Lomachenko wins, and Shakur, who is scheduled to fight in July wins, then for the fall to do a Lomachenko-Shakur fight, every serious boxing fan will be watching that in awe between two great technicians fighting for a unified title,” Arum said

Kambosos also faces doubts about his form. The ex-Unified Lightweight Champion has declined since beating Teofimo Lopez in 2021. Two consecutive losses to Haney followed, who became undisputed. Kambosos did secure a majority decision victory against Maxi Hughes in his last fight. However, many felt Hughes was the winner. The Australian has questioned Loma’s hunger. But both men appeared focused, having a staredown for over three minutes as security intervened.
