Loma-Campbell Ordered By WBC For Lightweight Title
On Tuesday, Vasyl Lomachenko got one step closer to unification, as the WBC board of governors has sanctioned his petition to fight for their vacant lightweight title.
With the petition sanctioned by the governing body, Lomachenko has been ordered to fight mandatory challenger Luke Campbell later this year, as Lomachenko looks to add the green and gold belt to his WBO and IBF titles.
Mikey Garcia, who vacated the title last month, has been given a champion “emeritus” title by the WBC, meaning he’d be able to get a shot at the title at his discretion.
If Garcia does not line himself up after Campbell-Lomachenko, a tournament has been put together featuring four rising fighters at lightweight.
Per Boxing Scene: Silver champion Zaur Abdullaev must fight Devin Haney, and Teofimo Lopez must face Javier Fortuna. The winners of these matches will fight each other to determine the mandatory contender of the division.
