Loma Eyes April Return To The Ring
With Mikey Garcia set for an April showdown against Errol Spence Jr, unified lightweight champion Vasyl Lomachenko is planning an April return as well.
Following his win over Jose Pedraza last weekend, Lomachenko made it clear he wanted two things in 2019, to unify the lightweight division and to face Mikey Garcia. Lomachenko looks to take care of the first issue, as the Ukrainian boxer has been penciled in for an April 12th return at Staples Center.
Per the Los Angeles Times, Top Rank executive set the date with the winner of February 2nd’s Richard Commey and Isa Chaniev fight for the vacant IBF lightweight title.
Currently with the WBA and WBO titles, a win against Commey or Chaniev would put Lomachenko one fight away from being the undisputed lightweight champion against Garcia.
Out side of the Spence fight, Garcia has a long standing gripe with Lomachenko’s promoter and his former promoter, Bob Arum, which would see a legal battle and Garcia go into a self-imposed exile for nearly three years.
