Loma Not Impressed With Lopez

Some believe Vasily Lomachenko may have found worthy advisory in Teofimo Lopez, yet the unified lightweight champion of the world is still skeptical of the young fighter.

Lopez, who defeated Richard Commey on his way to becoming the IBF lightweight champion on Saturday night inside Madison Square Garden, has been anointed as next in line to fight Lomachenko, but the Ukrainian feels Lopez isn’t where he needs to be yet.

“I’m not impressed because it was just a couple of rounds, and I don’t understand [who else he’s fought],” Lomachenko told a group of reporters. “He has the power. Of course, he has the power, and he’s a smart fighter. But it depends on the opponents.”

“Yes, of course,” Lomachenko said on if Lopez is the next man he is to face. “We want to [unify] all four titles.”

While Lopez holds the IBF crown, Lomachenko holds the WBA and WBO titles, while holding the distinction of being the WBC’s franchise champion.

“Now he’s the world champion,” Lomachenko said, “and now he’s interesting for me because he has the title. He’s very self-confident.”
