At a media scrum on Tuesday, Vasyl Lomachenko spoke on a variety of subjects as he prepares to return to the ring this December against Jose Pedraza in a lightweight unification fight.
When asked if he’d be interested in moving up to 140 pounds, Lomachenko claims he’s focused on unifying his titles. “I stay 135. I’m focused in 135, because [when] I was a fought with Linares I feel he’s a bigger than me,” claimed the Ukrainian champion. “So, I stay 135. Because I think 135, it’s not my weight category now, but after one or two years it will be my weight category.”
After his December 8th fight against Pedraza at Madison Square Garden, Lomachenko was asked if Mikey Garcia was a fight he wants.
“Yeah. Yeah, of course,” exclaimed the hard hitting Lomachenko. “Yeah. But I hope and, you know, we can’t see now in the future because we have my next fight in December 8 with Pedraza. So, after Pedraza we can talk about fight with Mikey.”
“Yeah, of course. I want this fight [with Garcia]. Every time I talk about this fight — I’m not a scared…I’m not a hiding. I always open, I always talking about top fighters. I always talking about my future fights, what I want, top fighters, big names…Every understands and every knows it depends not from athletes, it depends from promoters.”
