Lomachenko-Coralles Targeted for April
Vasyl Lomachenko will look to continue his ascension up the pound-for-pound list in 2017, and he may start by unifying titles. According to Lomachenko’s promoter Bob Arum, the Ukranian star will fight in April and his opponent will most likely be WBA champion Zezreel Corrales.
Arum has the 8th or 15th of April targeted for Lomachenko’s return, and Corrales is the most likely opponent.
“Lomachenko will fight the 8th or 15th of April,” Arum said (per BoxingScene). “We have not yet concluded the negotiations with his opponent, but most likely it will be a unification bout with Corrales.”
Lomachenko (7-1, 5 KOs) proved himself to be one of the best fighters in pro boxing in 2016, in addition to his legacy as a historically great amateur. He became a two-division world champion by knocking out Rocky Martinez in June and then handed Nicholas Walters his first loss with a convincing stoppage.
Corrales (21-1, 8 KOs) won the WBA title last year by knocking out previously unbeaten Takashi Uchiyama. He then rematched Uchiyama and won a twelve round decision in December.
