Lomachenko Open To Linares Rematch
For the first time in his career, Vasyl Lomachenko went to the canvas, even though he would walk away with a tenth round victory over Jorge Linares, Lomachenko is ready for a rematch.
Lomachenko added Linares’ WBA lightweight title when he would drop the Venezuelan inside Madison Square Garden on May 12th, and with Ray Beltran and now Mikey Garcia potential opponents, their first battle may have warranted a rematch.
Heading into the 10th round, the fight was scored with Linares and Lomachenko split with one judge ruling in-favor of the other, and one judge splitting it even (86-84,86-84, 85-85)
“Jorge Linares is a tremendous fighter,” Arum said during a post-fight press conference.
“And if and when a rematch happens is up to his able promoters, Golden Boy and Teiken, my friend, [Honda]. I’m sure toward the end of the year, maybe the beginning of next year, we’ll have that conversation. But right now, it’s premature.”
Lomachenko, who would win his third world title in as many weight classes, would welcome another fight with Linares.
“If the promoters want to talk about that,” Lomachenko said, “and it’s gonna be interesting for the fans and for everybody, why not? I’m open to that.”
