Lomachenko-Rigondeaux Official For Dec. 9th

It is official per Top Rank that Vasyl Lomachenko and Guillermo Rigondeaux  will face off at Madison Square Garden for an ESPN card on December 9th.

Rigondeaux  was last seen  this past June, as part of the HBO Pay-Per-View undercard to Andre Ward vs. Sergey Kovalev II. He knocked out mandatory challenger Moises Flores in the first round, but the outcome was later changed to a no-contest after it was determined by the Nevada State Athletic Commission that Rigondeaux’s knockout blow had come after the bell.


Lomachenko was the headliner of an ESPN televised card, with a stoppage title defense victory over Miguel Marriaga, who was moving up from featherweight.

Rigondeaux, the WBA’s super bantamweight titleholder who would have to move up two weight divisions to challenge  for Lomachenko’s WBO super featherweight title at 130-pounds. While Rigondeaux was ordered by the WBA have a rematch with Flores, and now due to the December 9th contest, the Flores fight will be put on hold until some point in 2018.
