Lomachenko Sees Rise in Ratings
The ratings have come in for Vasyl Lomachenko’s latest performance on HBO, and the Ukrainian phenom has proven that he is not only rising up the pound-for-pound list but is growing his audience as well.
Lomachenko’s fight with Sosa averaged 832,000 viewers on Saturday night and peaked at 886,000 during the main event.
The ratings were the highest for a boxing match on a premium network so far in 2017. Prior to Saturday night, the highest rating in 2017 on premium networks was Adrien Broner’s split decision victory over Adrian Granados on Showtime in February. That fight averaged 779K viewers and peaked at 859K.
Lomachenko’s fight was also the highest rated fight on HBO so far this year, beating David Lemieux’s knockout win over Curtis Stevens last month.
With the WBO junior-lightweight titlist rapidly rising as one of the best pound-for-pound fighters on the planet, it is a good sign for Lomachenko’s star potential that his viewership is continuing to grow.
As for his next fight, Lomachenko challenged the other titleholders at 130 lbs. to fight him and said that if he cannot find another champion to step into the ring with him, he will move up to lightweight with the hopes of taking on a 135 lb. champion like Mikey Garcia or Jorge Linares.
