London To Host Anthony Joshua Vs Oleksandr Usyk On September 25
After months of back-and-forth discussion, the Anthony Joshua vs Oleksandr Usyk super fight is finally going down in London’s Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on September 25. This is the first time Joshua (24-1, 22 KOs), the IBF, WBA and WBO heavyweight crown-holder, will defend his titles against former cruiserweight champion, Usyk (18-0, 13 KOS).
Usyk’s camp has been clueless for the last few months whether Eddie Hearn and co would put pen to paper to book the Ukraine star as AJ’s next challenger.
But the super fight was confirmed by the Brit himself on Tuesday. “The date is set and we are fully locked in. September 25, Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, I put it all on the line again and it’s time to defend my crown,” AJ affirmed. “We are two Olympic Gold medalists who have fought our way to the top and never avoided challenges.”
In May, the WBO had ordered Joshua to defend his titles against Usyk. AJ’s team took some time to respond to the order since they were upset with Tyson Fury’s camp for not setting up an all-Brit blockbuster title fight.
Joshua last fought Kubrat Pulev in December 2020, whom he stopped in the ninth round.
On the other hand, Usyk has won both of his fights as a heavyweight. He last won against Derek Chisora in October via unanimous decision.
