Lopez Remains Optimistic That He Will Fight Crawford

Teofimo Lopez is confident that he will fight Terence Crawford

Crawford is in need of an opponent after the Errol Spence Jr. rematch broke down. He is a two-weight undisputed champion, who will likely go down in the ‘Hall of Fame’. Bud has been targeting a historic fight with Canelo Alvarez, giving him the chance to be a three-weight undisputed champion. That fight has several obstacles, namely the weight, as Bud would have to jump up three weight classes.

But boxing fans are also calling for Alvarez to fight David Benavidez. Lopez has reacted, calling out Crawford, saying it is a logical fight since he would jump up one weight class, making it more realistic. If Crawford fails to get Canelo, Lopez says the former Undisputed Welterweight Champion will have to face him.

“When I said I’ll fight (Crawford) at a catchweight, he knows what I meant by that because I been saying it to everybody prior…between 147 and 154 I’ll fight you. But he says ‘go back to the drawing board.’ That man don’t want no part of me, man. Crawford is the only reason I came back, anyways. I get that triple crown…we probably gonna fight next year or the end of this year, but he gonna have to take it,” Lopez said

Based on Lopez’s last fight, it is unlikely. While he beat Jamaine Ortiz via a unanimous decision, some in the boxing community felt Ortiz had been robbed. The challenger outlanded the WBO Junior Welterweight Champion by two punches, but Lopez landed six more power punches as he won the bout. That leaves Lopez with more to prove at 140, with possible unifications against Devin Haney and Subriel Matias
