Lopez Wants Loma Or Commey Next

Following another stoppage win on April 20th, Teofimo Lopez wants his shot at a lightweight world championship before it is too late.

Speaking to the press following his win on the Khan-Crawford main card, Lopez made it clear that Vasyl Lomachenko is at the top of his list and that he’s not interested in waiting for “his turn.”

“They think that Teofimo needs more fights to make that thing bigger with Loma(chenko) but I don’t,” Lopez stated. “We’re looking for the IBF for Richard Commey. This weight is really annoying. I don’t think I can make the weight for December. I’ll tell Lomachenko lets do July. We can make the fight happen now but they don’t want to fight now.”

“July could be me and Richard Commey [and] if not we go for the WBC because I don’t think Mikey’s going to want to come back 135,” explained Lopez before Garcia’s announcement this week that he’s vacating the WBC title. “Richard Commey lets make the fight happen, you’re going to get paid. But I think Commey wants Lomachenko before me.”

Lopez does know that staying at 135 pounds won’t be tenable for long, with a potential move up to 140 pounds awaiting him.

“WBC wants Teofimo to represent their belts so the fight with (Jose) Ramirez is possible but I want to collect something at 135 because I been here for 5 to 6 years.” stated Lopez.

“I want Loma now, I’ll wait for December and I’ll try my best – but it’s up to my body.”
