Luke Campbell Gracious In Defeat: Ryan Garcia Has A ‘Massive Future Ahead For Him’
Luke Campbell may have not picked up the win over Ryan Garcia but there’s no doubting he is all class in defeat.
Campbell traded leather with Garcia inside the American Airlines Center in Dallas, Texas on January 2. The bout was contested for the interim WBC Lightweight Championship. For many, this bout was all about seeing whether or not Garcia is ready for a step up in competition.
Things looked shaky for “KingRy” in the second round. A clean punch to the jaw sent Garcia to the canvas for the first time in his career. Garcia got back to his feet and kept pressuring Campbell as if nothing happened. In the seventh round, Garcia floored Campbell with a body shot. Campbell couldn’t beat the 10-count.
Campbell took to his Instagram account to speak on the loss to Garcia.

“Well I’m honestly heartbroken, I really wanted to bring the win back for you all. I’m sorry for that. I hope you all enjoyed the fight. Have to take my hat off to Ryan Garcia, well done and a massive future ahead for him. I wish him all the best.”
Where Campbell goes from here is up in the air. He has already been unsuccessful in major title bouts against Vasiliy Lomachenko and Jorge Linares. The loss to Garcia is another setback for Campbell, who has yet to win a major world title.
