Luke Campbell: Ryan Garcia Would Beat Devin Haney

Luke Campbell believes Ryan Garcia has the tools to defeat Devin Haney.

Campbell gave Garcia his toughest test to date back in January. He floored “KingRy” in the second round of their interim WBC Lightweight Title fight. Garcia managed to bounce back and he knocked Campbell out with a body shot.

Speaking to Sky Sports, Campbell said he feels Garcia would defeat WBC Champion Haney.

“He would beat Haney. Haney would try to make it a boring fight but Garcia would beat him.”

Haney recently told Ak & Barak that he feels Garcia ducked him.

“Me and my team knew that Ryan Garcia was all cap. We knew that he really didn’t want to fight me. He didn’t really want to fight Tank, he didn’t really want to fight Pacquiao.

“It was just… it was all promotion. And only time will tell what’s really going on and as everyone can see that he’s ducking me. Why fight for another mandatory when you could be fighting for a world title?”

Garcia’s promoter, Oscar De La Hoya, had a different take when speaking to Ak & Barak (h/t BoxingScene).

“With Haney, look, I respect Haney. I love Haney. He’s an amazing fighter. I respect every man that steps into the ring – and women. But Haney has to build up his profile. He has to build up his resume. You know, he has to fight somebody that has a chance to beat him. You know?

“Just like Ryan Garcia facing [Luke] Campbell and facing [Javier] Fortuna now, in his next fight, so that’s the way you can build and make big fights. I mean, Ryan right now, because of his popularity and because of who he’s fought, he’s actually on a different level than Haney – believe it or not, without a world title.”

Garcia will fight mandatory WBC challenger Javier Fortuna next. Haney will put his gold on the line against Jorge Linares.
