Lupita Godinez Looks To Create History In UFC with Two Wins
Lupita Godinez will be looking to write her name in the history books when she faces Luana Carolina in the octagon on a less than seven days’ notice.
According to ESPN Deportes, Godinez will replace Sijara Eubanks against Luana Carolina at UFC Vegas 40. Eubanks was dropped from the fight card after suffering an injury during her fight camp. She is now replaced by Godinez who will be keen to set a record for the quickest 2-0 turnaround in UFC history.
This record is currently held by Khamzat Chimaev who made his debut on July 16, 2020, against John Phillips.
After submitting the Welsh in the second round, Chimaev was presented with another opportunity to fight on just 10 days’ notice. He took this opportunity with both hands and finished his next opponent, Rhys Mckee with a thunderous knockout in the first round.
The Mexican is fresh off her win against Silvana Gomez Juarez at UFC Vegas 39. She submitted Juarez in the very first round of the bout with an armbar.
It was Godinez’s first win in the UFC after losing a rather controversial split decision to Jessica Penne in her debut. Now Godinez has a chance to raise her win tally to 2 in the promotion within a week’s time.
For Chimaev, he became a fan favorite, and many were willing to put their money on him.
If Godinez can pull off this win, she is certain to receive a similar sort of appreciation from her peers and the MMA community.
But she surely has her work cut out as she will be facing Luana Carolina who herself will be looking to make her way in the top 15 ranks.
