MacDonald-Fitch Set For April Grand Prix Showdown

The Bellator welterweight champion is throwing himself into the fire as he is set to defend his title in Bellator’s welterweight grand prix.

MacDonald’s road begins on April 27th in San Jose, California as he and Jon Fitch will face off in the first round of the tournament.

Whoever will walk out of the fight the winner will then have to defend the title in each round of the grand prix which has seen Douglas Lima and Neiman Gracie advance so far in the single elimination tournament.

Each fight in the tournament will be five rounds due to the title being defended once in every round of the tournament.

MacDonald looks to bounce back after a loss to Gegard Mousasi in September, when MacDonald moved up to middleweight in a superfight.

This will mark MacDonald’s first title defense since winning the title in January 2018 against the aforementioned Lima, in only his second fight inside the Bellator cage.

Fitch looks to add the Bellator title to his resume, which includes a stint as the World Series of Fighting (now PFL) welterweight championship, as well as his run as a championship contender in the UFC.

Fitch rides a five fight win-streak heading into his showdown with “The Red King” including his Bellator debut against Paul Daley in May.
