MacDonald v. Gracie To Headline Bellator 222

Bellator 222’s main event was supposed to be Chael Sonnen v. Lyoto Machida. That is what Bellator President Scott Coker has stated since the fight was announced. Now, it appears the company has changed its mind.

The semifinals of the Bellator Welterweight Grand Prix will main event the card taking place inside Madison Square Garden on June 14th. Neiman Grace will battle Welterweight Champion Rory MacDonald, with the title on the line. Sonnen v. Machida is expected to co-main event the show.

Gracie (9-0) last fought in December, beating Ed Ruth via rear-naked choke. MacDonald (20-5-1) is having a quick turnaround, having fought on April 27th at Bellator 220. The Welterweight Champion fought Jon Fitch to a majority decision draw in the quarterfinals.

Other fights on the Bellator 222 main card include Bantamweight Champion Darrion Caldwell defending his title against Kyoji Horiguchi and Dillon Danis v. Max Humphrey.
