MacDonald vs. Daley Set for Bellator London
One of the biggest free agent signings in Bellator’s history will make his long-awaited promotional debut in May. Former UFC title challenger Rory MacDonald will face another former UFC star in Paul Daley at the main event of Bellator: London on May 19.
The fight will take place at the SSE Arena, the promotion announced on Thursday.
MacDonald (18-4) last fought in June of 2016, losing a five-round decision to top UFC contender Stephen "Wonderboy" Thompson. Prior to that he came up short in July of 2015 against then-champion Robbie Lawler in one of the greatest fights in UFC history. The damage MacDonald sustained to his nose in that fight kept him sidelined for almost a year, and was an issue in his fight with Thompson as well.
Therefore, MacDonald elected to take a long break to heal his nose even after signing with Bellator shortly after the Thompson fight. His return has been highly anticipated since his signing, and he now has the most exciting matchup possible.
Daley (39-14-2) is an MMA veteran of many organizations, including early days in the UFC. His recent stint in Bellator boasts a 4-1 record, losing only to the current welterweight champion Douglas Lima.
In his last fight, the British power-striker knocked out Brennan Ward with a vicious flying knee. He called MacDonald out after the fight, and it seems that he will get his wish on May 19.
