Jiu-jitsu world champion Mackenzie Dern will fight her second professional MMA bout on Friday, but hit a snag when she missed weight during Thursday’s weigh-ins. Dern weighed in 118.3 for her Legacy FC 61 fight against Montana Stewart.
The 23-year-old Dern is the #1 female jiu-jitsu artist in the world. She was successful in her professional debut in July, winning a lopsided decision over Kenia Rosas. She will give a portion of her money to Stewart as a result of missing weight.
Stewart (5-2) has won five fights in a row, with four victories by submission.
Legacy FC 61 will air live on AXS TV on Friday, Oct. 14 from The Bomb Factory in Dallas, Texas. The card is headlined by a bantamweight fight between Steven Peterson and Mark De La Rosa. Peterson also missed weight, weighing in at 137.5 pounds.
