Mackenzie Dern Promises To Never Miss Weight Again

Despite being massively over the strawweight limit for her fight against Amanda Cooper at UFC 224, Mackenzie Dern believes she can fight at 115 pounds and promises to never miss weight again.

Dern was interviewed in a recent episode of The MMA Hour and said she hopes to come back and fight as a strawweight. Dern, who made her UFC debut earlier this year, said she would consider moving up in weight if the UFC does not think she can fight at 115 pounds.

“I want to stay at strawweight. Hopefully, with the help of UFC Performance Institute it will be a lot easier and it will all be under control. If they told me, ‘It’s not good for you to fight at 115’, then I would go to 125. I’ve made 115 before, three times, so I think it’s a better weight for me,” Dern said.

At UFC 224, Dern submitted Cooper in the first round after Dern weighed in at 123 pounds, way over the strawweight limit. In the interview, Dern said not only was Cooper given 30 percent of Dern’s purse, but also an additional 15 percent from Dern’s win bonus.

It was in that interview where Dern made a promise to never miss weight again after doing so multiple times throughout her MMA career.

“I can guarantee [that I won’t miss weight again].”
