Madge Bests Mazany, Wins Lightweight Title
Don Madge defeated Dave Mazany via second-round submission to win the EFC lightweight championship in the main event of EFC 58.
Mazany almost immediately tried to cut through Madge and get a takedown. But instead, Mazany was unsuccessful and got taken down himself by Madge. Mazany was transition through a clinch, but still was unable to completely take down Madge.
The two continued a clinch against the cage, until Mazany came after Madge, cutting the challenger’s distance and unleashing a flurry of shots. Madge tried to fight back with his own hard shots, but it was clear Mazany’s body shots were a lot more effective.
Mazany then finally got a takedown on Madge and locked Madge’s legs. Mazany laid on some shots, but towards the end of the first, Madge grabbed his left leg and continued to twist, looking for a leg lock or heel hook. Fortunately for Mazany, he survived the first.
The second round began with Mazany trying to cut off Madge’s distance once again, but Madge was speeding away this time around. Madge landed a hard kick to the body, and it was clear Mazany could feel the effects. Madge got the takedown in front of Mazany’s corner.
Madge managed to get Mazany’s back in one of the corners of the hexagon. Madge locked in a deep rear-naked choke, and Mazany passed out, giving Madge the win and the lightweight title.
