Magdaleno-Rivera Targeted for Aug. 10

Former WBO super bantamweight champion Jessie Magdaleno will be competing in his second featherweight contest, as he is looking likely to be facing Rafael Rivera on Aug. 10.

The bout would serve as part of the undercard for a Top Rank event headlined by Carl Frampton vs. Emmanuel Dominguez in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.

Magdaleno claimed the WBO championship as an unbeaten pro with a win over Nonito Donaire in November 2016. After a successful defense against Adeilson Dos Santos, he lost the title when he was stopped by Isaac Dogboe in April 2018. Magdaleno returned to the ring in his first fight at 126 pounds back in March, defeating Rico Ramos.

After going 25-0, Rivera has dropped three of his last five bouts and lost his unbeaten record to Joseph Diaz as part of the GGG-Canelo I undercard in September 2017. Rivera dropped a decision to WBA (Super) Featherweight Champion Leo Santa Cruz back in February but rebounded with a knockout of David Godinez on May 31.
