Major Update On Mairis Briedis vs. Yuniel Dorticos
The World Boxing Super Series Cruiserweight Final between Mairis Briedis and Yuniel Dorticos is finally set.
In a press release sent out by WBSS, it was announced that Briedis vs. Dorticos will take place on September 26. The fight for the Muhammad Ali Trophy will be held inside the Plazamedia Broadcasting Center in Munich.
Here’s what the CEO of Comosa AG, Andreas Benz had to say on the announcement of Briedis vs. Dorticos.
“We are thrilled to announce the date and place for the exciting finale of Season II of the WBSS. Plazamedia is a phenomenal solution, the studios are providing a controlled environment which is of huge benefit to us and the production team to keep everyone safe while also putting on a great show. At the same time, we have done everything to secure fair conditions for both teams, and to ensure they remain healthy and isolated until the action starts.”
Briedis was last seen in action back on June 15, 2019. He defeated Krzysztof Glowacki in the semi-finals of the WBSS. He won the WBO Cruiserweight Title in the process but was stripped of the gold for not giving Glowacki an immediate rematch.
On that same night, Dorticos had his own semi-final match. He knocked out Andrew Tabiti in the 10th round to become the IBF Cruiserweight Champion.
Briedis is quite happy with the location of the bout.
“I love the fact that it will be in Munich as it reminds me of every time I went to train with the Klitschko brothers in Germany and the flights were always via Munich. Those are some great memories of the time spent with them there!”
Dorticos plans on taking the Muhammad Ali Trophy home.
“To all my fans worldwide, in Europe and especially in Munich, Germany: I am super happy the World Boxing Super Series final will take place in Munich, Germany, and I will see you all on Saturday, September 26th. The KO Doctor is back and ready to prescribe another dose of pain and take the Muhammad Ali Trophy back to Miami!”
