Malik Scott Explains Why Oleksandr Usyk Should Fight Deontay Wilder Next

Usyk is waiting on a shot at WBC champion Tyson Fury.

Former heavyweight champion Deontay Wilder’s trainer feels that waiting around for Tyson Fury to finalize a fight with Oleksandr Usyk is not an ideal scenario for the latter.

Malik Scott, who serves as Wilder’s head trainer, has said that Usyk should prioritize fighting the Bronze Bomber instead.

“I think he should hold off on Fury and wait for us, just fight us. One, because there’s no telling what Fury’s going to do. There’s no telling,” he told ES News.

Scott feels that Wilder is in his prime and is ready to take on the best of the heavyweights.

“Plus I’m just greedy, I like the position that my guy, Deontay, is in right now – mentally, physically, spiritually. He’s just in a very dangerous space right now, and I want Usyk to fight the most dangerous fighter in the world. As I said, don’t nobody respect Usyk on US soil the way that I do – but I also know who I’m training is the most lethal fighter in the history of the sport.”

Usyk, who has his eyes on Fury’s WBC strap, has not responded to the statement yet. He last fought in August in a rematch against Anthony Joshua where he retained the WBO, IBF, WBA, and IBO titles with ease.

As for the Gypsy King, he has been open to the idea of fighting the undefeated Ukrainian star, but he will have to handle Derek Chisora first, whom he will scrap with on December 3 in a trilogy fight.
