Manager: Rose Namajunas Is Ready For Weili Zhang
The manager of Rose Namajunas says his fighter is ready for Weili Zhang.
Many fight fans are confused as to what the holdup is in making Zhang vs. Namajunas official. Zhang is the UFC Strawweight Champion and Namajunas appears to be the clear number one contender. UFC President Dana White has claimed that Namajunas doesn’t want to get the title shot, something “Thug” Rose has denied.
During an interview with BT Sport, Namajunas’ manager Brian Butler responded to White’s claim (via MMAJunkie.com).
“We’re still in talks with the UFC about Rose, but I can tell you that Rose is ready. Rose has been ready. She’s been ready, she’s been in camp. Rose is ready to fight, honestly, in the next – she can fight on a couple of weeks’ notice. She’s ready to go. So we have to see. It could be Rose, it could be Carla, it could be whoever. We’ll see.”
Butler went on to say that Zhang’s travel schedule has been thrown off thanks to the COVID-19 pandemic, which could also explain the delay in making the bout a reality.
“Weili has been ready to go for some time now. The only hesitancy is – her last fight, I don’t know if everybody knows the full details on everything that happened. But for her to even get to that fight was trails and trails just to get there. To avoid the COVID, they flew her to Thailand. Then Thailand started to lockdown, so they flew her to Abu Dhabi. She was traveling for the last third of that camp.
