Manny: Exhibitions Are Not Good For Fans
While Floyd Mayweather gladly took $9 million for a “exhibition” fight on December 31st against Tenshin Nasukawa, and MMA fighters Conor McGregor and Cris Cyborg have thrown their hats in the ring for a similar payday, don’t expect that from Manny Pacquiao.
While preparing for his January 19th title fight against Adrien Broner, Pacquiao was asked about his legacy heading into the first defense of his WBA “regular” welterweight title, and told reporters that: “I’m not thinking about that now. My legacy is already there. I want to be an inspiration to the fans and the people not only inside the ring but also outside the ring.”
Also asked at Wednesday’s media day, the Filipino senator was asked if he’d do an exhibition fight similar to Mayweather, he said no.
“I won’t do that. If I’m Floyd I wouldn’t do that,” he said.
“Exhibition match where you just knock him out. That’s not good for the fans.”
