Manny Pacquiao Adds Another Title to His Résumé: Doctor
Manny Pacquiao added another title to his résumé this week as the eight-division world boxing champion received an honorary doctorate in Physical Education and Sports.
The Philippine Normal University conferred its first-ever Doctor of Physical Education and Sports, Honoris Causa, on Pacquiao this week in recognition of his achievements in sports and contributions to the country.
Pacquiao, 47, said he viewed the honor as a responsibility to continue serving others and inspiring younger generations.
“For me, this honorary doctorate is not simply a recognition of what I have achieved,” Pacquiao said. “It is a reminder that every blessing comes with a responsibility to give back, to serve, and to help others rise.”
Pacquiao then referenced his own career in boxing saying that the sport stressed the importance of standing up and celebrating your vision regardless of whether you’ve been knocked down. The same could be said of life, he added.
The distinction comes shortly after Pacquiao returned to public service. President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. appointed the International Boxing Hall of Famer as Secretary and Lead Convenor of the National Anti-Poverty Commission earlier this month.
Pacquiao previously served in the Philippine House of Representatives and Senate before running for president in 2022.
