Manny Pacquiao Team Unhappy With WBA After It Rules Out Reinstating ‘Super’ Title

Boxing legend Manny Pacquiao and his team are displeased with the WBO’s move of not reinstating him as the Super Champion, the status that was taken from him for inactivity. The PacMan, 42, had won the welterweight champion strap fair and square in 2019 against Keith Thurman.

The coronavirus pandemic then barred him from defending the title and he was then stripped off the title and declared as the Champion in Recess.

MP Promotions President Sean Gibbons has come out hard against the WBA after the association did not restore the Filipino star’s status. He claimed that Pacquiao’s belt was taken without being given any prior notice and this is unfair to a man of his stature.

“The WBA never inquired about Manny’s title defense plans. The WBA never warned us Manny’s ‘Super Champion’ status could be in jeopardy. The WBA never informed us that Manny had been designated its ‘Champion in Recess’”.

“I can tell you what Manny didn’t receive – due process and respect. It took two years to get the world title belt he earned inside the ring by beating the undefeated Super Champion Keith Thurman. Hell, Manny only received that belt on Saturday,” The MP Promotion president remarked.
