Manny Pacquiao Vs. Buakaw Banchamek Exhibition Set For April 20th

Manny Pacquiao takes on Muay Thai fighter Buakaw Banchamek in a boxing exhibition on April 20, 2024.

Pacman retired from boxing after losing to Yordenis Ugas in 2021 via a unanimous decision. Pacquiao did not take up the rematch but had an exhibition a year later with DK Yoo. The eight-division champion beat him in a fight used to raise money for people experiencing homelessness in the Philippines and for the Ukrainian people. The current exhibition will be six three-minute rounds, including two-minute breaks between rounds. The initial announcement of this fight was made in July.

“We are honoured to have Manny ‘PacMan’ Pacquiao and Buakaw Banchamek for this historic event,” he said. “It is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity you won’t want to miss,” Vinij Lertratanachai (Fresh Air Festival CEO)

It is not clear how this impacts Pacquiao’s Olympic aspirations. He has expressed his desire to fight at the 2024 Paris Olympic Games. According to the Philippine Olympic Committee, boxers must be between 19 and 40. Pacquiao is 45. There is an exemption if the IOC approves it, but giving it to Pacquiao prevents another fighter from competing. Marcus Manalo, the General Secretary of the Philippines Association of Boxing Alliances, expects a resolution soon.

“It’s all up in the air. But we’re hopeful about the appeal for a universality place because it would be extremely beneficial for us if it gets approved. We’re hopeful, but again, we must manage expectations,” Manalo said
